Two years ago I wrote a blog post titled "Is God Really In Control?". This post came out a month after the world turned upside down in March 2020. Since then there has been continued sickness and death, presidential elections, and war in the world around us. In addition to the types of hardships we witness on the news, we all have trials and hardships individually that affect us on a very personal level (not to say that the things on the news haven't also affected some of us personally). Sometimes it can feel so overwhelming.
- The car wreck that hurt us physically and financially.
- The struggle with infertility that often feels hopeless.
- The family member who's health is failing them.
- The financial struggle that seems impossible to overcome.
- The diagnosis that looks bleak.
- The broken relationship we haven't been able to repair.
It's hard to know how to deal with so many hardships in a world that already feels like it's gone crazy.
So again we ask: where is God in our hardship? Where is God when we hurt? Where is God when we feel overwhelmed, cheated, and at our wits end?
The answer remains the same: He is here. He is with us.
But how do we know that and cling to that? How do we remember that he is here and that he is good when our emotions tell us otherwise and when our circumstances look bleak?
We know the truths of God through his word. He gave us his word to know him, and it is here that we see that he is good, he is in control, he is trust-worthy and he is with us. 1.) The Lord goes with us
"Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” - Deuteronomy 31:6
2.) God comforts us
"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me." - Psalm 23:4
