Whenever I go to the store, if something is handmade there are always signs declaring the item's home-made-ness. With all of the cheaply-made, copy-cat products that line the shelves, stores will make it known if something is locally crafted or handmade. Why? Because the product is unique. It had care and time poured into into and the the creator was invested in the work.
God didn't make a bunch of robots when He created us. He didn't make a mass-production from an assembly line and He certainly didn't just throw us together at the last minute. The Bible says that God is the one who knit us together in our mother's womb, and that we are wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13-14).
No one is an accident. God has always had a plan for each of us. No one is an "oops baby". Even if you grew up feeling unwanted, even if you were born because your parent was unfaithful to their spouse, and even if you were born to a mom who was forced into sex-trafficking- even still, you were carefully created with love, with steady hands, and with compassion.
Regardless of what situation you were conceived in, you were handmade by God from the very beginning. He created you in His image and saw your beauty before you ever made an appearance on an ultrasound or in the delivery room.
We are all uniquely us, and no one else can be us. And while that can cause division at times, I think that our uniqueness shows the love and creativity of an awesome God who carefully crafted us all. We are handmade people.
And even now, no matter what trend we attempt to follow, and regardless of where we are in life, we are still made in His imagine. He cares and He calls. No matter how much sin is there- no matter how much anger, hatred, and hard-heartedness- God still sees a handmade people. He still says that if we will come to Him, He will take care of us (2 Chronicles 7:14).
It can be intimidating to embrace God- even for those of us who already follow Him. He is a big God and people have made up all sorts of non-sense about Him. Sometimes we believe the non-sense without even realizing it. But if we are honest with ourselves, it makes much more sense to run towards the One who crafted us with such care. He was the One who saw us and loved us from the beginning. He was the One who declared us beautiful regardless of what situation we were born into. And He is the One who still has His arms wide open even when we've rejected Him.
Let us always run towards the God of the handmade people.

ReplyDeleteGlad it was an encouragement to you, friend! <3
DeleteYES YES YES, so much yes to this. I don't think I really understood this until I was adult and having babies of my own, but I could not agree with this more.

DeleteGreat post.God did hand make all of us to his specifications.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a Pastor, and he often reminds people that we are God's hand crafted masterpieces. God declared EVERYTHING ELSE into existence, yet he took the dust of the earth and formed man and then breathed His own life into him. " And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7
ReplyDeleteYES! We really are God's hand crafted masterpiece created with an eternal purpose!
We are also continually on His mind. "How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee." Psalm 139:17-18 If that doesn't make you feel awesomely special, then it's time to consider this too!!
Love this post! Shared it out earlier this week. We can never be told this truth or reminded of this truth enough!
