Tourist in my Hometown *Volume 1*

Ever since March of 2014, when Taylor and I got married, I have lived in Waynesville, NC. It's not the beach, but it is a beautiful area with kind people and the cutest little shops all over the place. I haven't explored nearly as much as I would like to, but every time I do, I feel like I am entering into a new world. Waynesville has a lot to offer if you just take the time to look around.

Yesterday, my mother-in-law and I had another breakfast date (I'm really enjoying those!) and we decided to try a new-ish bakery that opened in Hazelwood, NC (right next to Waynesville).

Nettie's Bakery is barely noticeable if you are just driving by, but once you step inside you'll feel like you are in England (as much as someone who's never been to England can tell, anyway).

There are beautiful teapots all over the store and a china cabinet filled with teapots and china. I was very impressed by the cuteness of it all.

I decided to get a cranberry-orange scone, and Toni tried the Eclair with chocolate ganache. Let me tell you, people...that scone was bangin'! Seriously, it was authentic (in other words, it was a biscuit texture), with a barely there sweetness that was just perfect for breakfast. It was served warm with a drizzle of icing on top, but not too much. We had coffee with our pastries (of course!), and the owner said they serve a lot of English black tea as well.

After we had breakfast, we headed next door to a cute store called Robin Blu. I've mentioned it before, but it is such a cool shop. It's got candles, home decor, wedding decor, and very pretty jewelry too.

There were several coffee signs and mugs that I need for my collection ( Taylor would debate the need aspect of my statement :p ). I also loved the blue mason jar light fixture. Unfortunately, I didn't get the best picture of it...sorry.

If I worked in Nettie's Bakery, I'd easily gain 20 pounds, and if I worked at Robin Blu, I'd spend my whole paycheck every week! If you are ever in Waynesville/Hazelwood North Carolina, make sure you check these shops out. They are conveniently located side-by-side, so you have no excuse to miss out on one ;)

Have you ever really explored your town? I highly recommend it! If you do, please let me know. I'd love to read all about it. And let Jess over at A Stamp in my Passport know too! She's the one who started the "A Tourist in Your Hometown" posts.

  1. Both of those places look super cute! I love the idea of being a tourist in your hometown, a good reminder to be more intentional about that. :)

  2. Love this idea - it's easy to forget to be excited about the place where you live. We are fairly new here and so we are "touristing" a lot.

Cute pictures - sounds like a fun day :)

    1. Thanks! It was!
Don't stop being touristy. You can always find new things, even when the town is not-so-new anymore!

  3. This post title attracted me because I love where I live! I live in a small town and although there may not seem to be a lot there, it's always been home to me. I got a lot of crap when I moved home after college.. but I think if you are happy, then what does it matter? I love small town living and I'm glad you enjoy where you live :) Looks so cute!!
